The left hand develops arpeggios and certain more elaborate formulas to enhance the musical and rhythmic rendering. The right hand often plays several notes at once to harmonise the melody (thirds, sixths, octaves, etc.). The right hand plays mostly one note at a time sometimes several, but only if the harmonising notes do not require too much spacing.
